Rep. Joe Wilson: Right words, wrong time

Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) responded to President Obama's claim that no bill he would support would provide coverage for illegal immigrants by shouting out "You Lie!" during last night's tedious speech before Congress. While he shouldn't have said it during a presidential address...the president's promises about health care reform are misleading at best. I agree with the sentiments expressed on the matter here at National Review by Kevin Williamson.

Here is another fantastic post from the good people at Heritage Foundation on last night's speech.

Now today there is outrage among liberal Democrats who are insisting that they have never heard anything like this in "all their years" in office. First of all, we should have term limits so these people don't have so much time in office to draw upon for such anecdotes. Second, remember 2005?

I understand that there is a certain decorum to adhere to, especially at a joint session, but I sometimes feel as if the British Parliament is on to something. Rather than political posturing, they feel free to air their grievances in the most bombastic of ways. I personally applaud Wilson.

What he needs to do now is use his new found infamy to get himself in front of as many cameras as possible to lay out in clear terms the problems with Obama’s plan and the solutions the GOP has to offer.

No worries man…thanks for the comments. I completely agree with the admiration you have for the British style of back-and-forth confrontation with their Prime Minister. I personally don’t think the master of rhetoric Barack Obama would be able to handle himself as well as, say, Tony Blair did so many times as I watched on CSPAN.

Conservatives don’t have to apologize for Joe Wilson…if he felt he needed to, then that’s his business.
