A Voice in the Wilderness In Defense of "Mere Conservatism"

Educate yourself with Milton Friedman

I cannot tell you how often people say to me, "That's all well and good that you like politics and economics 'stuff', but I don't have the time and/or interest to learn these things."  But then come election time, those same people, and everyone else, suddenly become "experts" (primarily because no one wants to admit they have no clue what is really going on).

Well, I'm no expert, but I do take seriously both the Christian mandate to do everything (even "be a citizen") to the best of my ability, and the Constitutional responsibility to be an active participant in our republican democracy.  I want to know the world around me because I love and appreciate the world around me.  It is unavoidable then that things like economics and politics will cross my path.

One of the most influential and beneficial voices in my development continues to be Milton Friedman.  Take a few minutes and watch the video below, send it to your friends or kids or grandparents, make it a "Bookmark" on your computer, and engage your mind with something other than Facebook or Twilight.  I promise you, regardless of where you stand on the political spectrum today, after watching Milton debate and disseminate his views you will never be the same.

  1. I didn’t get to watch this whole thing cause I’m at work but I will for sure finish it when I get home tonight. Milton has always been one of those guys for me that you hear about and are sure you agree with, but I’ve never taken the time to read or watch anything by him. What books of his would you recommend?

Thanks for reminding people that they can’t avoid their civic, moral, and in our case, religious, duty. Reading is the best way to educate yourself, but its nice when they make a movie out of it too ;)

  2. That was the best hour of my life. I just bought Free to Choose on half.com. People, the Friedman will set you free (to choose).

What is “Mere Conservatism”?

The basic ideas, ideals, and values that generally define and characterize the central tenets of what today might be termed "modern conservative thought."

We believe that a proper understanding of history, economics, and theology leads to certain conclusions. Many of these are the same conclusions our Founding Fathers arrived at in constructing a "more perfect union."

All ideas and opinions are welcome; not all are correct.
