A Voice in the Wilderness In Defense of "Mere Conservatism"

Questions Democrats Don’t Want Asked

From the Associated Press:

Senate Democrats have blocked a GOP attempt to require next year's census forms to ask people whether they are a U.S. citizen.

Interesting.  Seems fairly reasonable to ask if the person responding to the survey is a citizen of this country, but why get bogged down in messy details like how many citizens we actually have when you are busy ramming disastrous legislation like Cap-and-Trade and Public Option health care reform through?

Democrats see potential voters in illegal aliens.  That is what this is all about.  Anything that might be perceived as actually holding people who come here illegally accountable for their own actions is off the table in the mind of the modern liberal Democrat.

  1. I’m really glad that you wrote about this. I wrote about it this week (http://blkandred.blogspot.com/2009/11/clash-over-count.html) and what I found most disturbing was that liberals so openly advocate counting illegal immigrants for the purpose of apportioning representation! I had expected this end to be masked by some political euphemism–similar to when liberals argued that requiring voters to show ID was economic discrimination.

It is a shame that this issue did not get more attention–Americans would’ve been displeased with the left on this issue.

It’s also a shame that one of the Republicans standing against this (Senator David Vitter) was involved in a prostitution scandal. I googled his name while researching this issue, ready to learn more good things about a Senator who stood on principle knowing that his power in the Senate was virtually nil. Instead, the first search results were news stories about his indiscretions. The news didn’t de-legitimize his point, but it tarnished his image.

The biggest shame of all, though, is that the Senate Democrats prevailed. Our vote has been diluted and most of us never knew it even happened.

    Great piece, buddy.

What is “Mere Conservatism”?

The basic ideas, ideals, and values that generally define and characterize the central tenets of what today might be termed "modern conservative thought."

We believe that a proper understanding of history, economics, and theology leads to certain conclusions. Many of these are the same conclusions our Founding Fathers arrived at in constructing a "more perfect union."

All ideas and opinions are welcome; not all are correct.
