A Voice in the Wilderness In Defense of "Mere Conservatism"

Rats off a sinking ship

joker-heath-ledgerTo quote The Joker in Dark Knight: "And here...we...go!"

Democrats across the country are starting to bow out "gracefully" before their support of such egregious pieces of legislation as Cap-and-Trade and Obamacare comes home to roost in the mid-term elections of 2010.  The first is Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT):

Word of Dodd's retirement plans comes after months of speculation about his political future, his faltering poll numbers and a growing sense among the Democratic establishment that he could not win a sixth term in the Senate.

Then there is Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND):

Dorgan says he will not seek re-election to the Senate in 2010, a surprise announcement that could give Republicans an opportunity to pick up a seat from the Republican-leaning state.

But as bad as things are for many different Democrats in congress, liberals on the state level are feeling the electoral heat as well:

Saying he needs to spend more time with his family, Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter announced Wednesday he won't seek re-election this year—a move that he said would free him politically to make "tough and unpopular decisions" in the months ahead.

rats_sinkingshipLike rats off a sinking ship, liberal Democrats will continue to abandon their own political careers rather than face the shame of losing an election badly (as they deserve).  Five other Dem's in the Senate face dismal polling numbers already for next November's election:

From Nevada, where Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid trails badly, to Arkansas, where Sen. Blanche Lincoln is polling at just 40 percent in head-to-head matchups with four possible Republican challengers, opposition to the health-care bill is reverberating.

Please register to vote.  Please pay attention to your state's primary elections so that come next fall you won't have to be one of the johnny-come-lately's who complain about the lackluster candidates available.

  1. I sat down to start on my article for this week. I was going to title it something like “Pump n Dump” or “Slash and Burn”–something that would describe the very phenomenon you’re describing in this piece.

Excellent insight, Robby. I hope that voters are noticing this and realizing what big cowards these leftist politicians are.

What is “Mere Conservatism”?

The basic ideas, ideals, and values that generally define and characterize the central tenets of what today might be termed "modern conservative thought."

We believe that a proper understanding of history, economics, and theology leads to certain conclusions. Many of these are the same conclusions our Founding Fathers arrived at in constructing a "more perfect union."

All ideas and opinions are welcome; not all are correct.
