A Voice in the Wilderness In Defense of "Mere Conservatism"

Typical Conservative Racism

harry-reid-frownWhat's with these religious, free market conservatives that they're always racist too?  This time it was Harry Reid, the Democrat...wait a minute...a Democrat called President Obama "light-skinned", and someone who spoke with "no Negro dialect unless he wanted to have one"?  What gives?

Oh well, honest mistake.  I'm sure the media will let this slip-up go without much fanfare.  You know, the way they do with most Republican slip-ups.  Especially when its a high-ranking Republican in the Senate.

An excerpt from the Associated Press reports:

Reid's comments are included in the book, obtained Saturday by The Associated Press and set to be published on Monday. "Game Change" was written by Time Magazine's Mark Halperin and New York magazine's John Heilemann.

The book also says Reid urged Obama to run, perceiving the first-term senator's impatience.

"You're not going to go anyplace here," Reid told Obama of the Senate. "I know that you don't like it, doing what you're doing."

Oh how boring it must have been to only be a Senator!  Small potatoes.

  1. This is an opportunity for conservatives, and maybe also Republicans, to gain the higher moral grounds and simply let this “non-story” go. Reid is not a racist. What Reid said (maybe not HOW he said it) is largely correct. If Republicans and conservatives are going to complain that is it morally and ethically wrong for liberal Democrats to nail every so-called “slip-up” by a conservative/Republican, then to be consistent conservatives/Republicans can not nail the other side to the wall for their slip-ups. Either it’s wrong and we do not play that way, or we can not complain about “unfairness” when liberals try to make hay out of our poorly chosen words.

  2. PS: I am NOT suggesting that RJ was inappropriate to post this “story” on this blog. He needs to. My comments are aimed at the general issue only. :)

What is “Mere Conservatism”?

The basic ideas, ideals, and values that generally define and characterize the central tenets of what today might be termed "modern conservative thought."

We believe that a proper understanding of history, economics, and theology leads to certain conclusions. Many of these are the same conclusions our Founding Fathers arrived at in constructing a "more perfect union."

All ideas and opinions are welcome; not all are correct.
