A Voice in the Wilderness In Defense of "Mere Conservatism"

Newt vs. Jon Stewart

My boy Newt Gingrich has been a guest many times on Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, and it's always a wild ride.

Last week the former Speaker of the House duked it out with Stewart over the president's handling of the War on Terror.

  1. Haha! Stewart tries so hard to be funny and comedic, but then thinks himself an academic because his writers and researchers have prepared “zings” to “nail” people like Newt with. He’s a relatively funny guy, and has done a decent job of ripping the Obama administration as of late. You can tell though that he hates Gingrich’s guts. I guess good for him for having Newt on so often. I want to be angrier about it, but I really can’t. The Daily Show is the Rolling Stone magazine of news sources: if that’s where you get your info from, you’re lost.

  2. Your dog, Rudy, looks like a menace to society. Is he part Rottweiler or Mastiff? I’d recognize those jowls anywhere.

Great blog and wonderful review of the Sowell book. Don’t stop.

  3. Richard Reid was not an American citizen–he was British. Instead of supporting Bush’s bad decision to try Reid, wouldn’t it have just been better and more honest to just say that Bush made a bad call?

Otherwise, it was a great interview. Jon Stewart is funny, unlike Bill Maher, and Newt Gingrich is a great representative for the Republican Party.

    Nice post.

  4. Joe-

I agree that Newt should have known his facts on this one.

Gingrich has held a consistent stance on the topic of prosecuting the war on terror, and it has always been stronger and more serious than anything Bush ever did. I heard Newt once say “I’m for everything President Bush is doing to win the war against the irreconcilable wing of Islam…plus 20%.” That’s all I need to know about the guy.

What is “Mere Conservatism”?

The basic ideas, ideals, and values that generally define and characterize the central tenets of what today might be termed "modern conservative thought."

We believe that a proper understanding of history, economics, and theology leads to certain conclusions. Many of these are the same conclusions our Founding Fathers arrived at in constructing a "more perfect union."

All ideas and opinions are welcome; not all are correct.
