A Voice in the Wilderness In Defense of "Mere Conservatism"

Tragedy in AZ

Today in Tuscon, AZ a nut-case named Jared Loughner shot and killed at least 6 people, wounding some 12 others.  Among the victims were a US Federal Judge and a 9 year old girl.  One of those most critically wounded was Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ).  Our thoughts and prayers are absolutely with the families involved in this horrific tragedy.

The liberal media will spin this event as the sole result of the fact that the 2nd Amendment is still a priority in many states, including Arizona where the shooting took place.  Of course there is still much to learn about this story, so I do not want to speak too rashly, but obviously anyone capable of committing such atrocities is mentally imbalanced and thoroughly evil.  Here is one of the bizarre YouTube videos that Loughner made in the last month:

There is some faulty logic the kid used in his claims.

You will note that at the end of the video he makes clear his disdain for any belief in God. I make a point of this simply because the media will eventually try and paint Loughner as a Tea-Party, Christian zealot (much like they did with Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh and the two sickies responsible for Columbine).

If you don't believe in evil, in mankind's fallen, sinful state and the corruptibility of the human soul/mind/heart, then the only reason someone could shoot strangers in the head outside of a grocery store is political.  Or perhaps economic, like the rationale given by the media for why terrorists join groups like Al Qaeda.

More than anything else, however, today is a sad day.  We mourn the loss of life.

What is “Mere Conservatism”?

The basic ideas, ideals, and values that generally define and characterize the central tenets of what today might be termed "modern conservative thought."

We believe that a proper understanding of history, economics, and theology leads to certain conclusions. Many of these are the same conclusions our Founding Fathers arrived at in constructing a "more perfect union."

All ideas and opinions are welcome; not all are correct.
