Arthur Brooks on ‘Earning Happiness’

About three years ago, someone at my grad school asked me what I wanted to be doing in five years from that point in my life.  My answer was simple: working in some capacity for either Arthur Brooks or Dennis Prager.

I now work for organizations both men oversee.

I tell that story here simply to prevent some from claiming that I am a "homer", or someone who is touting the new course from Prager University with Dr. Brooks merely because I get paid to. I believed in Arthur Brooks' message of making the moral case for freer economic markets long before I had ever even met the guy.

So watch this:

The words "happiness" and "free enterprise" don't usually appear in the same sentence. But Dr. Brooks, President of the American Enterprise Institute (AEI.org), shows that the two are intimately and profoundly connected. The free enterprise system not only creates wealth, it creates the best chance we have to achieve personal satisfaction.

  1. dee,You hit the nail on the Ingraham-mer!She kept me laughing in 2004. Loved the buepmr music, the Robert Byrd excerpts to music, etc. But she’s become so jaded and negative, it’s unappealing radio. Way over-the-top in her criticism. I was actually surprised the other week, when she mentioned a news story about a high school track athlete who is Muslim and wears a full body suit to cover up, and was told somewhere by an official that she would not be able to compete in that outfit. I thought Ingraham would go into a tirade about how much we bend over backwards for political correctness, multicultural acceptance, and Islam-backwardness, etc. But she was actually sympathetic and reasonable on it, and I thought that was a rare moment of her coming down to earth, a bit, and show a bit of reasoning and common sense instead of demagogued indignation.

What is “Mere Conservatism”?

The basic ideas, ideals, and values that generally define and characterize the central tenets of what today might be termed "modern conservative thought."

We believe that a proper understanding of history, economics, and theology leads to certain conclusions. Many of these are the same conclusions our Founding Fathers arrived at in constructing a "more perfect union."

All ideas and opinions are welcome; not all are correct.
