A Voice in the Wilderness In Defense of "Mere Conservatism"

Craigslist Joe

We are thrilled to welcome to The RJ Moeller Show the writer, director, and star of a brand new documentary called Craigslist Joe, Joseph Garner.

From the Craigslist Joe official website:

"In a time when America’s economy and sense of community were crumbling, one guy left everything behind – to see if he could survive solely on the support of the 21st century’s new town square: Craigslist.  Joseph Garner cut himself off from everyone he knew and everything he owned, to embark on a bold adventure. Armed with only a laptop, cell phone, toothbrush, and the clothes on his back – alongside the hope that community was not gone but just had shifted – Joe lived for a month looking for alms in America’s new town square: Craigslist. For 31 December days and nights, everything in his life would come from the Craigslist website. From transportation to food, from shelter to companionship, Joe would depend on the generosity of people who had never seen him and whose sole connection to him was a giant virtual swap meet."

We wanted to have Mr. Garner on the podcast to hear about both the creative and entrepreneurial aspects involved in putting a project like this together.   The entertainment industry is full of hard-working entrepreneurs who, like any small business owner with a dream, must raise capital and market their idea and take huge risks to see something they believe in come to fruition in the form of a product/good/service that others will hopefully deem worthy of their dollar.  This documentary is fascinating, and Joe's story is compelling.

Follow the project on Twitter at @CraigslistJoe as well as on Facebook!

In the second segment, we chat with the new Project Manager at Values & Capitalism: Josh Good.  A native of Maryland, Mr. Good is a passionate advocate for the free enterprise system and has a great story to share of his journey to American Enterprise Institute.  The two of us also break-down a recent review of Arthur Brooks' new book (Road to Freedom) by a professor of economics named Brian Fikkert.

What is “Mere Conservatism”?

The basic ideas, ideals, and values that generally define and characterize the central tenets of what today might be termed "modern conservative thought."

We believe that a proper understanding of history, economics, and theology leads to certain conclusions. Many of these are the same conclusions our Founding Fathers arrived at in constructing a "more perfect union."

All ideas and opinions are welcome; not all are correct.
